Pity you can't make the 28th Dave. Whenever you do get out on track skip the whole trackday training carry on. That's just another Mondello money making scheme. If you can drive on the road you can drive on the track. Trackdays are non competitive so you can tip away at your own pace while your confidence builds up and nobody will bat an eyelid at you :-)

Thanks Alan.. Ah I never liked that last engine anyway I never trusted the build from when I bought it and it was never reliable so better off without it.. Would have been nice it I didnt completely destroy it though

New engine has been miles more reliable already I done a trackday back in February but me being me was still not without its hiccups Ill throw up a post one of the days but here is one of the pics from the day:

You can see I was pushing it pretty hard

Well after neglecting this for so long its time for a catch up on whats been happening:

Basically 2013 was a disaster 2 engine failures, zero reliability and a car I hated driving all for this:
A 13.3 second 1/4mile[:I]

I cant say it was a complete waste of time, it was fun at times but more importantly it made me realise I want the CRX as a car I can enjoy driving not just a rattley unreliable performance based CRX, so I led into 2014 with a different aim......

And birthday cake

After giving up on the built engine and dropping in the standard engine it sat out in the rain over the winter again needing a few bits but at least driving:

Some time in early February I got things into gear and decided to get it sorted and take it out for a trackday in February (This time with reliability in mind so standard engine)
Anyway it needed a few bits spending money again:

New Varley dry cell battery after the last one fried earlier last year[:I]

To get the engine up and running right it needed a new waterpump and picked up an OEM Honda EK9 N1 crank pully so went about fitting them.. Another day working outside in the yard

New Milwaukee Gun made handy work of the crank bolt

Out with the torque wrenches again:

The waterpump was definately past it[:0]

The old v new crank pully.. (The new one is smaller because it doesnt run power steering or aircon)

Mechanically good now and trackday coming up I bought a set of track tires secondhand not new but plenty on them and E marked for road use:

They are Dunlop Direzza 036 and mounted them onto the 7" wide Work Equip 01s

So kinda sorted I loaded it up and off to Mondello

Arrived to the track early and quick check over

All seemed good so out it went!

Grip was unreal with the Direzzas but they did take ages to heat up at least 3laps before you could start to push it without the rear snapping free..

The YS1 Gearbox with ITR internals and LSD was a massive upgrade on the previous year when I had the standard Y1 LSD box.. The new gearing was far better for Mondello

Steering and brakes were still very vague with a looped rack and EG calipers (without spacers) but I just wanted reliability from the engine before I was going setting up more

Big rivalry when I met Stephen K on track with is B18 EK4

As the day pushed on the car was going great but eventually destroyed a set of brake pads, heres when I got to the end of the straight and my brakes were effectively gone from a lap or two behind the EK (his brakes went too and he ended up in the gravel)

So was back standard EF8 carriers and some motor factor brake pads that were sitting around in my shed for the past 6-7years

When it was in friends wanted to mount some Go Pros on it so here it is ready for some recorded laps:

Was down now to the last 20-30minutes so wanted to get some laps in so went out quick with a slight mist starting to fall on the track..
After a faultless day a combination of bad line into the bend, cold tires and damp kerbs this happened
(Im still waiting to get the full speed footage from both Go Pros)

http://youtu.be/4EGGfDwJRRc

I was devastated!! I thought the rear quarter would have been wrecked and the front pushed in as it was carrying alot of speed throught that bend..

The bit flying off in the video is one of the Go Pros that I then drove over..

Luckily the damage was only minor so drove back in gathered up my bits loaded up and headed home with the trailer queens

Ah home the next day I realised just how lucky I was..

Broken indicator
Scuffed bumper
Carbon Mirror disintegrated and couldnt find it
Lip came off and driven over but its polyurethane so was still perfect
Crack on the carbon wing
And just some scuffs on the side of it

No dents, nothing bent, no damaged panels I was delighted

This was the extent of the damage:

Re-fitted the lip and a spare indicator I had, gave it a wash and it was looking pretty good again (minus the mirror)

Good man Paul.
B16's are a very reliable, fast engine in fairness and suit mondello well.
Keep up your enthusiasm.
