Default FAO McD

hi Gary, was going to email but realised i didnt have your email address. Also, this might be of interest to others.
You were asking me did I know anyone in Galway Airport, as it is now closed and you considered it as a venue for drag racing. Well did you consider Clifden Airport (1/2km runway). Its basically a brand new airstrip to serve Inisboffin, however it never opened. The reason being that Boffin didnt have a fire station at their airstrip, which is also brand new. They ran out of money to complete it.

The X's on the runway mean it is out of use for aircraft who may see it from above.

It doesnt seem to be on google earth yet, but the location is Cloon, Cleggan, which is close to Clifden.

Wow how had this gone unnoticed! Great news for drag racing!
Could finally have a good southern venue if this worked.

Looks class alright.

But the idea of Galway airport, was to find a more central location for most of the drag communities.
We will look into it.
Thanks

There would still be a lot of red tape with getting access to the strip though. And there is road access to it. But maybe a closed airstrip would be easier to rent out than Waterford or Galway, which still has local flying clubs to deal with, along with commercial charters and Air corp.

There is access to the Cleggan strip to the north, hard to make out in the pic. Didn't realize they had so much work done to it before it stopped and since I was last out to see the progress. Sad really.

Na, just had an interest as I'm from out there originally and studied/work in aviation. Always joking with our ceo that he should set up a European base out there []
