Default Car has started hunting

Anyone come across this on their car, specifically the SiR? I know there's a few threads on CRX-UK about it, just wondering if anyone here has encountered it.

Basically, after giving the car a pretty thorough wash last week for the first time in ages, I started it up and noticed that the idle rev was a little higher than normal (definitely over 2K RPM, it's usually closer to 1800), When it had warmed up, I noticed it was regularly hunting between about 800 and 1600 RPM. Advice/suggestions welcome as to what might cause it, and also if I'm likely to damage anything driving it in this state.

Had the car been left standing for a period of time i.e several weeks. My 1.4 civicused do the same it was down to the idle control valve sticking. All I had to do is take it off give it a clean an put it back on. Any time I leave it standing for long periods as in months rather than weeks it comes back.

do a search for hunting FAQ on crx-uk

I had a leaky water pump that was causing hunting, but there are a few things that cause it.

my understanding of it is thats its something to do with vacuum hoses needing replacement....does this hunting actually cause any problems or is it just annoying.

It's just annoying as far as I know. The car hadn't been standing for any length of time, either.

It seems to be idling high, before it starts hunting, would that point to the idle valve being stuck?

i think can be something to do with the coolant system as well, check it and top it up if necessary or replace the fluid.

my 1.5 used to idle like that, turns out it was a screw on the fast idling needed adjusting. i posted about it before in greater detail on the forum somewhere.

Had the same problem for ages as well, I took off the idle control valve and the automatic choke, gave them a good clean and it has been running perfectly since then, hope that helps.
